Lung Cancer

WELCOME BACK!!! Thanks for keeping up with my blog, hope you guys have found a lot of interesting facts!!!! Now that we know how smoking and alcohol consumption in teens plays a big role, we are going to get more in detail about lung cancer, which is caused by smoking.

What is one of the first thing that comes to your mind when you think about diseases for cigarette smoke??
THAT'S RIGHT!!!! LUNG CANCER!!!!!

Most cases of lung cancer cause death, with that being said close to 90% in men, and 80% in women are caused by cigarette smoking. There are many other types of cancer that are caused from cigarette smoking. This may include cancer of the mouth (oral cavity), pharynx, larynx, esophagus, bladder, stomach, cervix, kidney and pancreas. The reason why there are so many different types of cancers being caused from cigarette smoking is because a single cigarette consists of 599 possible harmful ingredients, and when being bured the smoke contains over 4,000 chemicals.

Cancer was the first disease kinked to smoking, and is the second leading cause of death in the world.
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer, and about 90% of these cases fall back on smokers. Compared to some nonsmokers.... men who smoke are about 23 times more likey to develop lung cancer, and women are at risk 13 times more.

Just in 2003, it was estimated that 171,900 new cases of lung cancer occured from smoking, and around 157,200 died from it.

The combination of smoking and alcohol consumption causes most laryngeal cancer cases. Because of these easy preventable diseases, 3,800 people died because of this cancer.

Just because some cigarettes have a "lower yield of tar" (supposley better for you) it does not reduce the risk of you getting lung cancer, it can actsaully put you at other risks for other diseases, because the additives that are added to keep the same taste.

We all know that smoking and alcohol is an addiction and is so hard to stop if it is an everyday habit. Yes, cigarette smoking increases the risk of developing mouth cancers, but this is not just for the smokers. Pipe smokers and cigar smokers fall into this catergory too, and others who are them picking up second hand smoke.

If we can redude the number of people who smoke cigarettes, pipes, cigars, and other tabacco products, or even use smokeless tabacco we could prevent an estimate 30,200 new cases and save about 7,800 deaths from lung cancer, per year in the United States alone!!

I hope you enjoyed my posts and information learned. See everyone in class.

Hey, Nicole, great post because in todays society this is a big debate with teens and adults. I feel that people smoke they are just doing it and not thinking about the outcome of there actions if they keep smoking and not caring for there health. I really like in your blog that it is fun and inviting and it makes people want to keep coming back to your blog! GREAT POST!!

This was very informative to me. I agree with Catlin 100%. People do not think of the damage they are doing to their body until years later they start having complications due to smoking. Also some may have a nervous condition and then develope the I don't care Attitude. I explained all of this to my grandmother and at the end of our conversation she tells me "Im going to die anyway, so" that is sad for people to think like her.
